Applications are invited for Clinical Fellow (Core) posts (CT1-2 equivalent), in Critical Care Medicine (Intensive Care Medicine and Acute Medicine) to assist us with our COVID response surge plans and support an expansion to our critical care units to commence as soon as possible until 03 August 2021. These are short tenure fixed term appointments to support the changing environment here at Cambridge University Hospitals as a Regional Surge Centre for COVID. Our routine Critical Care Fellowships are advertised separately.

These positions would suit Doctors who have, at a minimum, completed their full Foundation Programmes or equivalent, and are looking for further experience in Critical Care Medicine. Previous ICM experience would be desirable but not essential. Junior Doctors on these units work alongside middle grade doctors during out of hours work, with Consultant supervision.

For Acute Medicine the successful candidates will be required to help us in our aim to return patients to their homes as soon as possible. This means that staff will be required to be proactive in driving the patient journey, and looking at all alternatives to admission beyond 12-24 hours as part of a close multidisciplinary team. The successful candidates will work primarily on the short-stay general medical wards, as well as partaking in the running of the General Medical Take. Outpatient experience will be gained in our established Ambulatory Care Unit and medical follow up clinic.

Please note that these posts do not carry Postgraduate Dean’s approval or training recognition.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013). Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at time of application is required.

This post may be suitable for those wishing to undertake an “F3” role.
