SAMH has represented the voice of people most affected by mental health problems in Scotland for more than 90 years. Today, in over 60 communities we work with adults and young people providing mental health social care support, services in primary care, schools and further education, among others. These services together with our national programme work in See Me, respectme, suicide prevention and active living; inform our policy and campaign work to influence positive social change. SAMH is dedicated to mental health and wellbeing for all: with a vision of a society where people are able to live their lives fully, regardless of present or past circumstances. For Scotland’s Mental Health Children & Young People Team Let’s Talk Engagement Officer (Ref:N850), Fixed Term for 9 months, pending further funding £26,424 per annum FTE 30 hours per week pro rata) Let’s Talk Children and Young People has been developed in direct response to the increasing demand from schools, colleges and youth organisations for specialist support around the mental health of children and young people, and the adults around them. The Let’s Talk Children and Young People programme shall respond to enquiries in the south of Glasgow and organise and facilitate mental health assemblies, workshops, pop up gatherings and other events. In addition, the Let’s Talk Children and Young People programme will pilot a suicide prevention and suicide bereavement support focus for a specific community, within Glasgow south, where a number of young people have recently taken their own lives. We shall partner locally and strategically to not only support the community in recovery from suicide but to help them become more resilient and promote suicide prevention. Let’s Talk Children and Young People programme will enable communities to have open and positive conversations about mental health, have more awareness of support services available in their communities and tackle stigma and discrimination around mental health. The Let’s Talk will involve work within schools, colleges and youth organisation. There shall also be home working during the current government restrictions, which will be reviewed. Evening and occasional weekend work will be required. Applications are welcome from individuals who have experienced mental health difficulties.
