Research Assistant (1 day a week for 6 months)

062020-206-R-R This post is to support Perseus, an Innovate UK funded project led by JLR. The objective of the project is to help project partner transition from Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) to Electric Drive Units (EDUs). As part of this BCU’s contribution to the project is to develop and deliver CPD courses to upskill the workforce of project partners. Project partners include JLR, Mapal, Horizon, Fives, HSSMI, JW Froehlich and BCU.The JobThis role consists in supporting the development of the Health & Safety in Electric Vehicles Manufacturing CPD course through the use of modern visualisation techniques (virtual and augmented reality). The post holder will be part of the BCU Perseus development team and will be working closely with team members in developing high quality learning content. The post holder will also have regular contact with project partners.This role is part time (1 day per week, 7.4 hrs/day) for 6 months. The postholder will work in the Knowledge Based Engineering (KBE) Lab in developing the VR content for the intended CPD course. Skills and ExperienceThe post holder will be expected to have the following skills/experience:Essential- good programming skills (e.g. C Sharp, Java Script, Python) – good understanding in engineering fundamentals (e.g. health & safety, mechanical, automotive, electronics) – ability to work as part of a team as well as independently- ability to write quality reports and documentation for the developed tools Desirable- good knowledge in developing VR contents/applications (e.g. Unity 3D, Blender) – good knowledge in 3D Modelling For more information about the post please contact: Venkatesh.Vijay@bcu.ac.uk With around 24,000 students from 80 countries, Birmingham City University is a large and diverse place to study.
