The CRUK Convergence Science Centre is a joint initiative between the Institute of Cancer Research and Imperial College London, which seeks to bring together cancer researchers and engineers / physical scientists to tackle some of the toughest problems in cancer. To develop any new cancer technology or therapy requires ethics approval where that research involves human participants; their tissue and /or data to ensure that the dignity, rights, safety and well-being of all participants are the primary consideration of the research project. As Research Ethics Manager, you will support researchers to acquire the necessary ethical approval to facilitate the development of new technologies and methodologies in cancer. This will span a range of research areas including cancer detection and diagnosis, novel therapy development and therapy monitoring devices and technologies.

Duties And Responsibilities

You will provide expert support to ensure that potential ethical issues are identified and addressed ahead of submission of proposals. You will support research teams in the submission of ethics applications and addressing feedback from ethics boards. Within the CRUK Convergence Science Centre, ethics support will be required for a broad range of activities including for patient sample and data collection and for the design of interventional clinical studies using novel technologies and therapies. You will also be expected to work closely with patient engagement teams, supporting the collection of appropriate patient / public input into ethics applications prior to submission.

Essential Requirements

You will bring a strong understanding of research ethics regulation to be able to advise and support researchers across Imperial and the Institute of Cancer Research in the preparation of research ethics submissions. You will provide expert support for the generation of SOPs and working with Quality Management systems.

You will have experience in clinical and translational research, including clinical trials and biobanking and bring experience of patient engagement and involvement to support the development of research ethics submissions.

This role is funded by the CRUK Convergence Science Centre on a fixed term contract until 31st March 2022, with potential for continuation in line with the renewal of the Centre funding.
