Stroke Trust Doctor ST1-2 Level

Trust Grade in Neurology / Stroke Medicine

Trust Grade in Stroke Medicine within the UCLH/NHNN Comprehensive Stroke Service.

We are looking for applications to join a dedicated and highly motivated team that is committed to providing the highest standards of care for patients with cerebrovascular disease whilst developing a truly world class training and research programme.

Our service includes the largest hyperacute stroke unit (HASU) in London and a dedicated acute stroke and brain injury unit that are located at The National Hospital for Neurology, Queen Square (NHNN). UCLH and NHNN are the most centrally located hospitals in London, within walking distance to Oxford Street, Covent Garden and Soho.

Our portfolio of outpatient clinics includes dedicated clinics for complex neurovascular disease, Moyamoya, focal spasticity and hemianopia. We have an established teaching programme that includes weekly teaching and a developing simulation training experience. UCLH employees enjoy full access to UCL library facilities. We are a participating centre for a number of important national and international stroke research trials.

The trust grade doctor will gain experience and receive training in the early assessment and treatment of hyperacute stroke (including thrombolysis and endovascular treatments), best practice stroke rehabilitation and stroke secondary prevention. There will be many opportunities for the successful applicant to be involved in a stroke research project and participation in service audit will be expected. Appraisals can be done using the “SARD” system with one of the Stroke Consultants.

In addition we have a stroke educational fund. Trust grade doctors can apply to this for all stroke educational activities, and we will fund fees, travel and accommodation costs. Attendance at the yearly UK Stroke Forum and/or the European Stroke Organisation Conference would be strongly encouraged and fully funded with a successful poster submission (subject to rota constraints). We will also pay fees for MRCP exams, on condition of a commitment to work for 6 months or more, and that the exams are taken during the employment period.

This post would suit any doctor looking to gain experience and training towards applications to medical speciality training (particularly neurology, geriatrics, acute medicine and cardiology), A&E, radiology and neurosurgery.

The successful applicant will participate in a 1:9 SHO rota with nights, weekends, long days and late shifts. All on calls are at NHNN and with a SpR on site. The post is banded 1 B.

Doctors who are not UK or EEA nationals and whose immigration status entitles them to work without restriction in the UK will be considered on an equal basis with UK and EEA nationals. Other non-UK or non-EEA nationals with limited leave to remain in the UK and whose employment will require Tier 2 sponsorship are subject to the Resident Labour Market Test (RLMT).
