The School of Medicine is seeking to appoint Teaching Fellows to be part of the team teaching the BSc in Medical Biosciences programme (BMB). This new and exciting undergraduate science degree, which launched in October 2017, teaches both online and face-to-face, and has students embedded in a teaching lab that mimics research labs right from the outset. You will be working with a highly motivated team to teach laboratory and theoretical modules to our talented students.
Duties And Responsibilities
The primary component of this role will be teaching and supervising BSc Medical Biosciences (BMB) students in Years 1 and 2 in the Lab Pods, together with a team of other BMB Teaching Fellows. These modules take place in state-of-the-art teaching labs as students explore a research hypothesis and the successful candidate will thus share the responsibility of leading laboratory and student lab meeting sessions, as well as recording attendance, marking assessments, providing timely and constructive feedback, and monitoring student progress. Troubleshooting and the development of new research project avenues are also important components of this role.
In addition to teaching in Lab Pods, BMB offers additional opportunities to teach in blended theoretical modules, develop transferable skills sessions and to contribute towards the running of the BMB programme.
You will hold a relevant degree, plus a PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g. Biomedical Science, Biochemistry, Biology), robust and extensive research laboratory experience, and ideally they will have teaching experience in a Higher Education setting.
You will have enthusiasm for teaching and for creating learning opportunities that engage the students. You must be adaptable, keen to learn and possess a demonstrable ability to develop and promote students’ learning effectively in a variety of situations. You must also be a team player with a strong collaborative approach.
The post is full-time and fixed-term for 2 years and you will be based at the Hammersmith campus, but will also work on other campuses and at home.
