The department of Cardiothoracic Surgery provides services for adult patients throughout the NW region. The Lancashire Cardiac Centre was commissioned in July 2006 and is one of our four regional centres for Cardiothoracic surgery. It houses catheter labs, four operating rooms and 20 critical care beds, together with associated ward beds and dedicated educational and research facilities. A CT scanner has been sited within the wing recently.
Thoracic surgical services are provided through and MDT network of four regional district general hospitals. Approximately 600 cases are performed a year with 180 resections for lung cancer. A lung cancer screening programme targeting our two highest incidence areas will increase this by an estimated 50 cases annually. The department offers VATS procedures, endobronchial interventions, and chest wall surgery and is commencing a laser programme.

A Bit More About Us And The Surrounding Area
Although Blackpool is, of course, a famous seaside destination that attracts millions of visitors every year, you might be surprised at the breadth and variety of scenery on offer in this particular part of North-West England. They go way beyond the town itself and are part of what makes us such an attractive place to work.
It’s not just the area that’s a great draw – as a member of our team, you’ll have access to one of the most generous and comprehensive pension schemes in the UK, a minimum of 27 days annual leave (on top of Bank Holidays) and an award-winning package of staff benefits.
Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship
Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. The UK Visas and Immigration department requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.
From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement.
